BBQ Friday, No TeaMMates Sunday

TeaMMates!

I hope you’re having a great, shortened 4th of July week! Just a reminder about a few things:

  • This Friday, July 4th is the Independence Day BBQ at Barrett & Melissa Hill’s house. See here for details.
  • TeaMMates will not officially meet this Sunday, July 6th. Please consider this a great opportunity to attend the 9:30am service with fellow teammates and share an early lunch/picnic/hike or other social activity to get to know each other better. If you’re interested, post a comment on this post.

Independence Day BBQ

Celebrate the 4th of July and our country’s independence with Teammates!

The Teammates Independence Day BBQ will be on July 4th from 3-6pm at Barrett and Melissa Hill’s home (5923 Vernons Oak Court, Burke, VA 22015). Hotdogs, hamburgers, sodas, and paper goods will be provided…and we’ll be passing around a sign-up sheet in Teammates on Sundays for everyone who can come to sign-up to bring a side dish, bottled water, or dessert.

If you won’t be at Teammates prior to July 4th, but would like to come to the BBQ, please contact Melissa Hill or Heidi Rosenblatt to RSVP and find out what you can bring.

As well, please feel free to bring your kids and any friends/family you might have in town for the holiday weekend or that you would like to reach out to by inviting to a Teammates event.

Update on Ukraine Service Project

After talking to the leaders of the Ukraine Mission Trip we have learned more about their needs. First of all, they are still in need of swimsuits for girls (any size) but only about 20. They would also really like Christian children’s books. Gently used books and swimsuits are welcome.

Most importantly, they (as well as all of our mission teams) are very short on finances. If you feel able to give any amount you may make a check out to IBC with Ukraine Missions trip (or any of the other missions trips) in the memo section.

Books, swimsuits and checks can all be brought to teammates or given to the Student Ministries Office which is located across from the IBC bookstore.

Thanks for serving Him through our missions teams. Please let me know if you have more questions,
Sarah Scott

Camping Trip Coming Up

All, we’ll be finalizing details for the camping trip next week, June 6th-8th. We have a couple slots left if anyone else is interested in going. Apparently some people wanted to know if it was ok if they just came one night, that is fine as well. Let me know if you have any questions, -Brian.

Upcoming Events Reminder

Just a reminder: Please respond to the Evites that have been sent out for the Hamlet - Shakespeare in the Park event on May 24th and the Camping trip (June 6-8) ASAP so that we can make sure that we have adequate reservations for everyone who wants to attend. Both events will be great opportunities to enjoy beautiful weather and fellowship with others in Teammates.

As well, just wanted to let everyone know that we have decided to postpone the Miniature Golf event that was on the calendar for May 17th to later in the summer to encourage attendance at the Coffee, Tea, and Chai Women’s event on May 18th and the other Teammates fellowship activities the following weeks.

If you have any questions or any event ideas, please let us know. We’ll be announcing the summer/early fall calendar by the end of the month…and are planning several activities that we hope you’ll be excited to attend and bring friends to.

Have a great rest of your week!

~ Mike and Heidi

Hamlet - Free For All

Got no plans for Memorial Day Weekend? Please consider this:

I love Shakespeare, and Hamlet is my favorite play. If you have never seen a Shakespeare play performed live before, I strongly recommend this performance. One big reason: it is free!

It is performed in an outside theater and you have the option of having a picnic before the show.

The Shakespeare Theatre is an excellent group and they do a free performance every year to drum up interest.

I’ve organized groups of people to see this in the past and everyone has a great time. Stay tuned for more details to come but please let me know if you are interested. I have to pick up tickets ahead of time so I’ll need a head count.

See more information about the play here.

Camping Trip: June 6 - 8

Camping Group

The camping trip was a lot of fun last year, and we have the pictures to prove it.

Here are some details for the trip this year.

When: June 6-8
Where: Shenandoah National Park, Big Meadows Campground

More details:

  • People generally arrive late afternoon friday, some come late friday night after work.
  • NON-Campers: Don’t worry about gear… If you want to go camping, but don’t want to by a $100 tent… I know several people that have *nice* extra tents and extra equipment. I also have a “camping check list” so don’t worry if you don’t know what to bring… it’s not as much as you’d think.
  • Cost is $40/tent + ~$5 for other costs like wood. There’s also a $15 national park entrance fee.
  • Want to save $50? Carpool and share a big tent with someone. (yes, I’m cheap).
  • Meals will be on your own, plates, cups, napkins, forks, knives, and spoons will be provided.
  • The Campground has quarter-showers, a shop (sells ice), near-by bathrooms, however we’re on sites that are “walk-in, tent only” sites… the “walk” is about 100 feet, not far.
  • We typically take a hike or two on SAT… depending upon who’s going and everyone wants to do, it’s usually a fairly easy hike. In the past we’ve done a quick hike in the morning and a slightly longer one in the afternoon. They have plenty of trails, most are either with great overlooks of the valley, or down to waterfalls in the valley.
  • People generally leave around lunch time on SUN.

Final Four Game Night - April 5

march madness

The madness has begun and now it is time for Teammates to have some fun!
Join us for a night of fellowship while watching the Final Four NCAA Men’s Basketball games at the Klock’s house (see directions below as their house isn’t listed on any of the Internet mapping sites).

The event will start at 5:30pm. Game #1 starts at 6:07pm and Game #2 starts at 8:47pm. Come cheer on your alma mater, hometown team, or just the team that you picked to win on your bracket. If you aren’t interested in watching the basketball games, feel free to bring a boardgame, etc. to share, or you can just eat all of the yummy food and chat.

This is going to be an adults only event (sleeping infants are fine, but please arrange with Monica Klock in advance). If you are having trouble finding a babysitter for the night, Sarah Scott knows people.

Please select from the drop-down options to either bring an appetizer/snack, dessert, or drinks.

Similar to the Super Bowl event, the Klocks have asked everyone to leave their shoes inside the front door.

Hope to see everyone there!!!

If you need directions, please contact us to be added to the Evite.
